O’Shai and Felecia met in Michigan while working together on an educational youth outreach program. Over several months, they grew as colleagues and as friends. In early 2017, they went on a lunch date and had great conversation. A few days later they had their second date and the rest was history. They are overjoyed to have found each other and excited to spend the rest of their lives together.

I planned a birthday dinner party for Felecia and I invited some of her friends. To make things extra special I invited her father, who drove up from Alabama to be a part of the occasion. I knew Felecia was suspicious of a proposal, so to throw her off the trail I had one of her friends “convince” her that I would not propose to her on her birthday. After dinner was served, I had the waiter bring out the birthday cake. And inside the cake was a note that said, ``Turn around.`` And then it was time to ask the question ...

I had some suspicions he might ask, but I was told by a friend that it was definitely not happening on my birthday. Regardless, O’Shai had made my birthday so special that I focused on all the love, joy, and laughter celebrating with friends and family. As I blew out my birthday candles, my wish was that one day soon he would ask me to marry him. Moments later my wish came true and I said YES!
